Our new, life-saving lung health check programme in Barking and Dagenham has scanned its 500th patient, as part of a national pilot called the Targeted Lung Health Check Programme (TLHC).
Following the launch of the pilot in July, past and current smokers aged 55 to 74 in the borough are being invited for a free lung health check. Those who are determined as eligible after a phone assessment with a trained healthcare professional, will have a 40-second scan that uses the latest technology and takes place in an innovative mobile unit.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death and can often be caught too late as there are rarely symptoms at the earlier stages. The Programme, delivered in partnership with the NHS, supports those who may be at higher risk and diagnoses at a stage when it’s much more treatable.
If you are invited to a targeted lung health check, please be encouraged to attend as it could ultimately save your life with earlier diagnosis.
