On 1st August, our Targeted Lung Health Check Programme in North East London celebrated their 100th patient scan on World Lung Cancer Day.
This new life-saving programme in partnership with the NHS, invites those aged 55 – 77 who have ever smoked and may be at higher risk of developing lung cancer, for a free, life-saving lung health check. The scan, which only takes 40 seconds, is accessed through state-of-the-art mobile CT units located at convenient locations across the city and is the first of its kind in England.
For residents in Barking and Dagenham, the mobile unit will be situated in the car park of Barking Sporthouse and Gym in Mayesbrook Park on Lodge Avenue and over the next 12 months, 14,000 residents will be invited.
Based on the success of previous pilots across North East London, the programme has achieved the highest systemic treatments rate in England, standing at 64%, with a national target to increase this to 70%. There are plans to expand this service to other areas later this year and into next year.
If you are invited to a targeted lung health check, please be encouraged to attend as it could ultimately save your life with earlier diagnosis.
