Upright / Open MRI

For some patients, Upright / Open MRI can be offered as an alternative to conventional MRI. Open MRI scanners are designed to provide optimal image quality comparable to traditional closed or tunnel MRI scanners, while also keeping patient comfort in mind.

Our scanners, located in Central London, Birmingham and Leeds, are wide open with no top section allowing more space around the body, making the experience more reassuring for anxious patients and those that suffer from claustrophobia.

Our MRI facilities combine the best of both worlds – an environment for patient comfort with the advantage of outstanding MRI image quality. We can also offer quick appointment times and aim to report your results in two working days.

Heavier patients or patients with restricted mobility may also find the scanner more suitable to their needs.

Our advanced Upright Open MRI scanners are designed to deliver a much more comfortable patient experience with a large clearance area above and in front, as well as a clear view of our expert Radiographers throughout the procedure. You can even watch television whilst your scan is being done!

Upright / Open MRI is particularly suitable for patients who are:

Claustrophobic
Bariatric
Have limited mobility
Anxious
Weight Bearing & Positional scanning (position of pain)
Or simply prefer the option of an open scanner.
